FolkFest '12

Just got back from the Cambridge Folk Festival!
Amazing amazing weekend.
I only recognised about 3 people on the line-up but luckily I was with a group of people that knew what they were doing (most of the time haha) and they took me along to see some awesome bands. I would def count some of the people I saw this weekend as some of the best music Ive ever seen live.

I could name some of my favourites.. so Im gunna..
Dry the River
James Vincent McMorrow
The Destroyers
JuJu
Keb Mo
Lazy Lester and Friends (who we spoke to later and was such a legend)
The Staves
and
Ruthie Foster

The music and people I were camping with completely made my weekend and Im a very happy wolf right now.

My tshirts were also on sale there and Im pleased to say all but one size had sold out by the end of the fest

CB1 Sign

I recently designed and painted a sandwich board sign for the Cafe CB1's.

My only brief was to make it colourful and eye catching.
The section at the top on the back was left blank so the owners can write in the Specials in chalk or pin-up fliers and posters for events.

If you're ever in Cambridge its one of my favourite Cafe's so def check it out. Its full of books and they always have really tasty veggie food.

Maps that Matter 2

Phew.
This Cambridge map is not how I envisioned. I have no idea why I decided to make it orange.. but its done now and If I spend anymore time on it i'll go mad.
I tried out adding hand-drawn type to both maps with a dip pen but it looked awful. I don't know how Alfred Wainwright did it.. In the end I got angry and just covered it in bikes.
These are a few places I visit in Cambridge (I honestly go other places than just pubs..)
For this map I tried out just painting, no cut paper. I think thats where I want my illustration to go now.

I also taught a small lino-cutting/relief printing class which went really well and painted a Cafe's sandwich board sign this week.
Its now sunny in Cambridge and Im off to the Folk Festival this weekend.
sweet!

Open Cambridge

I recently illustrated the front cover of a brochure for the Open Cambridge event.
The brief was to make it fun and colourful and to appeal to a wide range of ages. They had already seen an illustration I had previously made which was the spring board for the design.
Very short deadline but I had a great time making it and I met a group of really lovely, interesting people.

The brochure is now circulating around Cambridge or you can visit the website here

And here it is in poster form hanging out on the streets of Cambridge.
